Obviously the salvation army is another nonprofit that is only in it for the money. I've left numerous messages with no reply, I was told by the Community Rebuilders that I had to go through the salvation army to get any help for some stable permanent housing.
I'd like to know how I can do that if I never get a return phone call. After reading all the similar reviews I guess it's a waste of time trying to get any help from the salvation army. And I'm 61 and homeless.
This organization should be investigated, they certainly don't do what their website portrays, like many others. The only reason I gave one star is so I could post to their website.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on but I have been trying to get in contact with the housing department for weeks now! The amount of times I've called, waited fifteen minutes and pressed the call back, even following the prompt and low and behold not to get an answer is just horrible and frustrating. I moved here just a couple of weeks ago and I am not happy at all with this system. I have only talked to the intake specialist ONCE out of the MANY and I mean MANY times I have called and even emailed! This needs to get fixed or something needs to change!

The programs offered assisted me in a time of crisis and I appreciate each intake specialist that helped guide me along the way! I am grateful for not only the Salvation Army, it's also the network of partner agencies that work alongside them to help families within our community. I will always be forever grateful. Thank you and God bless 🙏

I would give this place zero stars if I could. I was homeless in 2018 with my teenage daughter and in 2019 by myself and was repeatedly denied homeless assistance when I qualified for various programs through other non-profit organizations. The No Salvation Army failed to adhere to HUD's Criteria for Defining Homeless although I met the criteria for 3 out of 4 categories. I was told on 9/17/2018 that I would have to sleep outside first before receiving help. This suggestion was bogus and dangerous because I was still homeless with my teenage daughter. This is an outrage and no one wants to acknowledge the discrimination I have been subjected to. I wrote a grievance complaint against the Housing Assessment Program, however the supervisor at the time never cared enough to follow-up on my complaint.

I have followed the chain-of-command from Grand Rapids to the office of Brian Peddle, international leader of the Salvation Army in the United Kingdom and these people simply don't care. The "officers" live in mansions while many homeless people are denied assistance. I speak from experience and research I have conducted. They profit of the hardships of the less fortunate.

Food pantry was great. Getting help with housing is a nightmare. People are so rude and after being in hold for 53 minutes, hung up on me.
