Like all shelters a beacon of hope is a bait and switch. I had to leave because of bed bugs.

I left the shelter nearly a week ago ,after having been there about a week.
I’ve read thru the reviews, and I’ve noticed that most former residents that are voicing complaints have obviously had issues with the rules or staff (according to the respondent) so I’d like to address some issues from the perspective of a 67 year old retired nurse that did not break ruies or cause problems of any kind.
There absolutely were issues with those in charge in the kitchen and I was stunned and beyond concerned with the administration of medications by RESUDEBTS/STAFF. I intentionally use the word ADMINISTRATING because I’m well aware of the loopholes that allow non licensed ppl to make available meds for a resident to SELF ADMINISTER.
I observed these residents/staff members ADMINISTERING meds, making decisions that even I as a licensed RN could not make without a Provider’s order…with my own meds.
Having said all of this, I do appreciate the help that got me off of the street until I could find appropriate housing and more importantly protection at a Domestic Violence shelter elsewhere.
My goal is not to use Social Media to air my concerns but rather to discuss them with the people at the Beacon that are willing to listen and the people that have the authority to make change.
If you sre willing to listen, I’m definitely willing to advocate for the people that so desperately need your help. I have to believe you would want to be aware of such issues as I’ve mentioned.
Thank you for your assistance

I called for help and the one woman at the front desk is the rudest person I've ever met. I have three children and me and my fiance our house burnt and we don't have a house and she was so rude. My service wasn't good and she told me to quit mumbling. Acted like they was to full for anyone to stay there like she was bothered by us. If that's how you treat family's with children I will never be there forget it

well first off i do not care what the manager of this establishment has to say. but this place is a cult. you would have a better chance on the streets. most the people there are drug addicts and they make you go to a little rehab meeting every morning at 9. they also hold no wit when it comes to helping someone also if your there and pregnant i suggest not stay there their property is gross the food gets half cooked the manager even stays at the shelter and if you wanna take your kids to the park you have to walk two miles to get there these people are not god fearing people they may say they are but they are devil spawn and to the owner of the shelter i would start trying to help people instead of putting them down and one last thing the rules they have there are inconsistent for example they tell you not to leave your children alone but you can leave them while they are napping but in the week i was there my gf was following this rule and it has changed to never leave your kids even at nighttime which was allowed before i got there.they also have people witch belong in a mental institution they also have a back area which that is not safe for my kids and will be the same for other families this place is hell on earth and to the owner of this hell hole you should get help yourself and maybe go back to school and just so you know you and your people are trash and scum and belong on the streets like animals for the way you treat others and again you are terrible people and inappropriate work place relations also discrimination towards people of color more than anything y'all are once again terrible people and deserve nothing you do not even earn your paychecks because you do nothing besides set behind a desk and stir drama like a bunch of preschoolers better yet y'all act like you have the brain of a newborn

This is a horrible place where they dictate your life in unruly manners as in they will find any reason to put you out on the streets. They know you have nowhere to go and don’t care. There are a few of the staff members that miss you, their authority, and the most horrible ways they talk to you very nasty Nasty so despicable that the other staff members around them don’t know what to say. All they do is shake their head they’re especially one I believe her name is Lisa. She will treat you like a child even if you are older than her she has been given the authority inside that building to treat people however, she wants , when she doesn’t like something she goes out of her way to make it so it will be her way I need to talk to someone that is over. I was put out of the homeless shelter because they say I missed a mandatory meeting I was never told about they said it was my fault that I didn’t go into the lunchroom and look on the dry erase board to see that there was a mandatory meeting , I was standing outside around 6 o’clock known of the staff members. None of the staff members made me a word of this temporary meeting even though I was standing outside when it began they were glad to see me leave Simp because I believe I go to work every day, and I have things , I need to get a hold of whoever is over the person over Michelle, because I have been put out in the code. I have no word to go without warning without a conversation this woman just sent someone else to tell me the information and relay it to me then I was told I could speak to her today after she put me out last Thursday , and then I come in today and they tell me that she’s on a week vacation I believe I’ll come in Monday and they’ll tell me she’s on a vacation again these people should be stopped. They are not helping the community out. They are picking and choosing who they want to help out, and that is horrible because as a young black man, I need a place to lay my head, and they simply took it away , for no reason well, they say the reason was because I did not attend a meeting a meeting I was not made aware of …. All of this is super sad. Winchester needs to do better about helping people out around the community because these power Hungry ungodly people of authority when it comes to helpings or not being laid, or are not leading others in the right direction.

The place was very helpful when I got there. They provided me with the things I needed upon arrival. Staff was very kind. The only downfall is that they will look for any reason to kick you out. For example, I missed sunday deep clean due to constantly going out every morning to put job applications in and was kicked out do to missing the clean. I was not informed that it is supposed to be a mandatory thing. I advise that you ask for Every little detail that you need to know as to not get kicked out. So I was kicked back on the streets for going to find a job as silly as that sounds. But other than that they are helpful.

Avoid this place at all cost. The lady thats replying to the negative comments is completely lying lmaoo literally not a single word is true, which is kinda hilarious btw . Better be safe than sorry and skip this one. Better yet catch a greyhound and leave this whole state. the place is run by ex-addict Bette Crocker hillbillies. But if you like being starved and gaslit by wrinkled up wannabe Christian trolls, this is the place for you. Be safe yall and stay hydrated!
