I grew up in a secular household and somehow found myself teaching at an Orthodox Jewish boys high school. I was shocked at how militant and regressive the culture was, so started looking into more liberal Jewish institutions in the neighborhood. Thank goodness I found Temple Beth Emet, because Rabbi Mark helped me learn about the truly ethical, compassionate, and progressive roots of Judaism. He has a background in the Jewish Renewal movement, which aims to bring some of the magic and mysticism of Orthodoxy back into the Reform tradition; while still welcoming every congregant wherever they may be coming from. It's a beautiful space where (pretty much) everyone feels like extended family. Very small-town vibes with a sacred, yet mellow, personal touch. Please support TBE - we need more spaces like this where Jews (and non-Jews) of all stripes can feel welcome and supported.

Rabbi Mark is incredible. This forward thinking temple is creating a progressive Jewish future. I had my Bar Mitzvah here and it truly helped me become a man!

Though I could be shy, everyone came up and greeted me (especially Tracy) making me feel more comfortable..Wish I lived in the area but if you're blessed to live here and attend know you'll be felt as family. The G-d of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob bless you all at Beth Emet! Shalom

Definitely not a friendly place. Very small independent congregation with no immediate plans to expand membership from the experience of this reviewer. Too bad as it is in a very good central location.

I used to attend Temple Beth Emet in the 1970s, before I moved from LA. Back then, William Mordechai Kramer (Rabbi Bill) was the rabbi. It is a small shul and very haimish.
