Tell u take 2 classes send in contract. Senior housing specialist will reach out to you. Yeah they did. Only to say I’m follow up with your lender n agent n only to come sending email 3 months later talking bout follow up did you close on your home yet?

you never 👎 did what you was supposed to do. Asking if you closed on your home. Did you contact lender n agent 😂🤣

Unless you are below median income AND buying a brand new build (unlikely combination), they will not give you the grant. They are absolutely the worst stewards of these funds. Terrible with communication (delayed for days, weeks, etc). Been living in the house I am buying, no help from these folks! Apparently the seller needs to repair EVERY minor fix that isn't even time sensitive

Are your outlets old? Gotta put the new "smart GFCIs in! Is there a crack in a window pane? Whole window needs replacement! Have a 1 inch hole for where the Heat Pump electrical goes under the house? Needs to be sealed entirely.

Honestly, none of these people should have jobs who work for HOME. They aren't stewards of the grant money, they just hold it for job security. I bet they are always under budget and there aren't many recipients of the first time home buyer grants! But there's job security for them!

I tools the first time homebuyer course in mid 2023 and was frankly astounded by how unsound the information given was. It was really a marketing session for a real estate agent, home inspection service and lender.

The advice given, with no qualification, is what helps keep people poor. Pay money to “buy down” your interest rate. Only use a Realtor, not just a real estate agent. Keep a small balance on your credit card month to month. The last was even said by a HOME counselor!

It was obvious they only cared about getting people into a house as quickly as possible, irregardless of the harm rushing someone into a financial decision can do.

Use them for their grants, but never take them for any sort of ethical assistance orginization

They make you jump through all these hoops and attend the 2 hour virtual courses just to tell you they can't help you. They left out very important information that I should have known from the beginning. If you need assistance with down payment, closing cost etc. please find another program. I literally wasted months of my time with this program just for them to tell me we can't help you due to the purchase price of your home being over the max that assistance will be provided. Mind you, the max is $30K below the average cost of a home in the county area. Would have been nice to have known this in the beginning. Could have sought out other opportunities without having to do it last minute now.

Lack of communication. It doesn't matter when I call the main number, no one answers. I've been unable to reach our "counselor" since our initial intake call -- which was 2 weeks ago. During the intake call, she told us she would be reaching out to our Realtor and Loan Officer to collaborate on our home search. However, they have not heard from her either. Out of a level of decency and professionalism, I'm not naming any names. However, we are dismayed at the utter lack of communication and follow up that my fiancé and I have experienced with HOMEofVA up to this point.

DO NOT use this entity.. Paperwork with fee submitted in August 2017 waited 6 months decide to call in January and then was told that letter for my class went out in October 2017, however I did not receive. I was then told that I would be put back on the list for March class to look for a letter mid February to early March.. We’ll never received letter nothing. Called today told never received application but hold on, oh received but now got to wait for next class in June.. This company is a joke... I have already obtain loan based on having this class with some possible grants but nope sorry we don’t know what we are doing and it’s okay! Word to the wise find another non profit that can stick to their word and have more organization.

Tried to help home loaned them my HOA document, after month going by I call to retrieve said documents they acted like they had never heard of me ! Only after threaten to report my now missing documents to the police, not only did they remember me but found documents, which at my expense and travel time go to there office to collect. They were very rude, I was hung up on waiting on hold transferred to the wrong extensions! Then when I arrived at thier office I found the door locked ! Two very self-right individuals came out into hall giving my property, acting as if they were victims of something!!! Very sad, I now believe they are there to milk money from people who don't know any better!!
The authorities should look into what looks to be a SCAM!

No no no if your really trying to move foward do not reach out to them!!unorganized and really don’t care about any of your problems nor do they really help to find somewhere to live no one gave me any help finding a place to live she just printed my credit report and basically threw me out there! Not sure how any other employee is but the employee I had didn’t help me with nothing and on top of that the way they talk to you smh I prefer a more professional not ghetto establishment to help me succeed!!Wheww and calling to speak with someone you’ll never get thru leave a message no return calls at all!
