Very toxic facility. I was physically attacked in their lobby (which has 4 cameras). 3 times the assailant was instructed not to strike me and that force would be used to secure the safety of myself and my service animal (working canine,I have a brain injury, was being struck in the head repeatedly). On all 3 attempts to halt the assailants attack the instruction was ignored and the attack continued Upon receiving the 3rd strike I knew I was stunned enough that both me and my service animal were not physically safe, and quick defensive action was the only solution to prevent us from injury and physical harm at which time the assailant lost consciousness, their significant other began to physically touch me, only stopping once aware law enforcement had entered the building. This altercation was witnessed by on-duty staff, who informed the officers that I was the victim of an attack which required the use of force to stop. Due to the circumstance that the aggressor had no idea where they were and no recollection of the event, the deputy in charge refusing to review the video evidence, a quick plan was formulated and decided on out of convenience, laziness, lack of pride in their work, unprofessionalism, and a general disregard for public safety or justice; cited all parties involved with identical citations. The program director who is never present was informed of the event by telephone at which time they also made a decision without reviewing the evidence or eye witness testimony but this time instead of serving identical punishments to all parties involved, I was the only person asked to leave. I can only speculate on the reason(s) why. There are extremely limited spots for individuals with dogs (8 in total), that are in greater demand, thus more valuable. I was relatively new compared to the assailant and their partner, who had resided in this shelter for multiple years which created a personal friendship with certain employees that inherently comes with biased, inequitable, unjust, special treatment.
Homeward Bound is not a safe place, with safe policies, nor the desire nor ability to provide enforcement of those policies, not even while standing in the main lobby, at the front desk, underneath 4 security cameras.
The result is that a disabled man was attacked on their property where no attempt to halt the attack nor any effort to intervene was made by any member of staff (although did maintain integrity in statements made to law enforcement), the disabled man was criminally charged for using force to defend himself and his loved ones after being left without options due to the assailant ignoring multiple verbal warnings and instruction to stop. The facility then revoked the disabled man's privilege to use their services, had him legally removed from the property, worsened his condition of homelessness, while allowing a dangerous criminal to evade all disciplinary actions and remain on the priority.
My advice to anyone contemplating a decision to utilize this building and the services it offers is to avoid this option at all costs, unless no other options were accessible. If you must use this facility be aware of what it is and prepare for that. Don't misunderstand the program from the business side, they'll make their best attempt at setting barriers and blocks in your path of changing your living situation, there is no case management, the staff behaves as if they have no job training, they wont actively work with you and provide instruction and assistance to the process of correcting your unhoused status providing a pathway of support to obtaining permanent housing, the activity that holds the greatest amount of time and effort spent by staff is coddling their clients into a level of comfort they won't desire to ever leave and remain their homeless client for the rest of your days. it's more difficult to escape homelessness here, if possible at all, instead given criminal charges, worsened homeless state, left for dead with less than what you came in with. Run from this trap!

This is the ONLY shelter that accepts adults with pets in the entire state of Colorado. I think it’s unbelievably cruel and calloused that the city council voted unanimously that this facility needed to change locations almost immediately. I’ve never been here but am glad this place exists, and I’m grateful for for the great work these folks do.

It's the only shelter in the state that you might be able to keep your dog at instead of giving them up cause you are residentially challenged temporarily. It's a low barrier facility that if you have limited options might be worth a look. The three stars...... Well go and find out for yourself cause I'm not sure any shelter would get five stars.

I am seeing a lot of improvements. The biggest and definitely the most needed was new staff. They were kind actually smiled made eye contact and didn't yell or demean a single person. Oh and the food was outstanding. FYI door's on the toilet stalls are back people. We are once again being treated like we matter

An amazing community resource for the unhoused. Providing many opportunities such as a family shelter in one location while providing shelter for singles and even individuals whom have their dogs with them. Caring and supportive staff provide support to each guest during their stay while also ensuring their safety during their difficult transition.

This place feeds breakfast and dinner. Most of the time Jeff feeds us lunch. There's showers a heated tent to hang out in during the day and warm beds at night.
