Disappointed After 23 Years of Membership

I have been a loyal member of FAMU Credit Union for over 23 years and have always been pleased with their services—until recently. In September 2024, my savings account was hit with more than $1,000 in unauthorized charges. I immediately reported the issue in October 2024, filed a police report, and followed all required procedures, including those outlined by the Credit Union and the NCUA.

Despite my diligence, I have not received all of my stolen funds. I have repeatedly attempted to resolve the matter, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. I have encountered misleading information, unfulfilled promises, and outright dishonesty from staff, managers, and even the President.

This situation has severely damaged my trust in FAMU Credit Union. A financial institution should protect its members, honor its policies, and resolve disputes fairly and promptly. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience.

I am sharing this review in hopes that no other long-time member has to go through the same ordeal. I sincerely hope the Credit Union takes accountability and corrects this issue.

A complete waste of time. I applied for a business loan & was told it would take 7 days. 7 days turned into 2 months of inconsistent communication & misleading information. You’re lucky if someone answers the phone. They’ll tell you someone will reach out to you, but they don’t. The customer service and lack of would not make me want to be a customer. This was my first experience & impression with them & it will be my last. This whole process screams unprofessional & untrustworthy. After reading reviews from 5 years ago I can see not much has changed.

This is the worse credit union in Tallahassee. No customer service and you can never get ahold of anyone by phone. Their overdraft policies suck . I am definitely moving to a better credit union or bank.

I'm very disappointed with the lack of follow up, little to no communication, and poor customer service from this credit union.

When I requested a loan I didn’t get much of any help. I’ll be banking elsewhere where the staff is more helpful. This is definitely not a good bank to primarily bank with no matter how long you’ve been banking with them.. I gave them many securities and they still denied me credit. t seems like they hire employees that aren’t knowledgeable.

Banking with this credit union has been a total headache. They are very unprofessional and they make their own rules as they go. Its seems like nobody is ever available to answer the phone and the online features may as well be non existent because they never work properly. I have entered disputes at least 3 times in the past with the bank for charges that I didn’t approve on my account. They made me drive all the way to the bank to fill out and submit dispute forms only to deny my dispute. I thought they were supposed to be on my side. They charge $40.00 for each insufficient funds fee if someone tries to pull charges from your account and regardless of your consent, they still hold you accountable. You’d think they would be more proactive about protecting their members from fraudulent charges but this bank decided to allow someone to attempt 4 charges of the same amount to my account before even notifying me. This was over the course of a week and a half. They allowed me to accrue over $170.00 in “insufficient funds” fees before ever calling to see if I was aware. And on top of that, the lady Mrs. Battle told me that she’s going to deactivate my debit card and reissue another one when I clear the balance. These charges were attempted thru ACH withdrawal so my debit card literally has nothing to do with it. The process of replacing and activating a debit card has been such a pain and so draining in the past and its always done at the discretion of the bank. So they deactivated my debit card, over the phone, but told me I need to drive to the bank and fill out forms to have the fraudulent charges blocked. Lol what a joke. As if I can use my debit card right now anyway. Every action taken was completely redundant and asinine. I’m so through with this bank. I’m taking my business elsewhere.

I’m a new member from Polk county Fl with no tides to the community other than wanting to bank with a black owned bank. My experience hasn’t been anything other than pleasant. I’ve had constant conversation via phone and email with “Rose”. Not only did she go out her way to assist me in opening my account she made a follow up call once my deposit posted. I became a voting member of the NAACP an I’m looking forward to a longevity relationship with this bank. I’ve had all types of bank experience why not be understanding and compassionate towards like minded and people who reflect you. FAMU credit union I’m here for long haul can’t want to have my business checks rolling in. $$$ signed a happy new member

Do not risk banking or applying for a loan with them. After, canceling my loan application through an email and a confirmation call they continued to run my credit anyway a week later without even notifying me. I have tried to reach out to bank manager who said she would call me, and give me an answer as to why my credit was ran when the application should have been cancelled. She told me she would call me back, I continued to attempt following up with her and left my number with representatives who said she would reach back out to me however I have heard nothing! The whole application process was not a good experience, and the fact that you have to answer multiple unnecessary questions as to why you want to bank with them through an e-mail was ridiculous. Along side the inconsistent communication as well, this is exactly why I cancelled my application the next day, but I that was not good enough considering the fact that I still got into the situation with them. Long story short, go elsewhere.
