Dr. Amin Yassin exhibited a profoundly unprofessional demeanor, displaying a lack of respect and disregard for my daughter’s well-being. Despite her sustained fall and subsequent concussion, he provided a diagnosis of closed traumatic brain injury without conducting a thorough examination to rule out a concussion. This is particularly concerning given her symptoms, including a severe headache, hearing difficulties, pain with inhalation, dizziness, and delayed speech.
Furthermore, she endured an excessive wait in the lobby from 11:30 pm to midnight before being finally examined and discharged at 7:24 am. The lack of attention and care she received is unacceptable, especially considering her status as a patient.
It is likely that Dr. Yassin will harbor reservations if he were to discover that his own daughter or family members were treated in such a manner, as if they were not worthy of professional care. The fact that her PPO will be charged the maximum allowable fees due to the subpar treatment she received underscores the importance of holding healthcare professionals accountable for their actions.
While it is unlikely that bias or racial disparities were the primary concerns, the fact that South Suburban ER has a 1.5-star rating as a reflective rating strongly suggests that the hospital is providing inadequate service to its community. I urge anyone who has read the reviews to reach out to our village, government officials, insurance providers, and the media to advocate for change and ensure that Advocate receives the professional care it deserves. The current state of affairs at South Suburban Hospital is unacceptable, and it is time for us to demand better.
