Well well I've never been to covenant house but I can let you know that it is wheelchair accessible and they do accept clothing except they accept gently used clothing and shoes and this is for young adults I'm I'm hoping the older adults can go there too and they have like you know counseling programs and and they help with jobs and stuff like that and and it's it's like a non-profit donation kind of thing

Watch out!!!
The Manager made negative comments about the staff (previous and current), the company and the building the second I walked in.
1. I wouldn’t have even known about the CEO’s home being searched by the law had it not been for the Manager. She actually showed me the video.
2. Manager made me aware of why the CEO was being sued for misappropriation of funds
3. I don’t know who “Walter” is, but after the negative comments being made about the guy, I was nervous to meet him.
4. Paranoid behavior and comments (etc. listening in on conversation) but complained when the residents did the same.
5. Manager warned me that know one last for more than 6 months. That residents and staff members would turn the office staff against each other (she does this on her own, honestly). That she felt like she was being replaced which made me uncomfortable.
6. Complained about how much I was making an hour bc it was “closed to how much she made.” Would all discuss others rate of pay with me (probably did this with other staff members). Example: she pulled me in a conversation she was having with the housekeeper about how much the house keeper is paid, and how low her rate of pay is.
7. Housekeeper was cool, but would sit in the security room in the dark with the heater on for almost 4 hours while residents would be doing janitorial work around the property for rent credits.
8. My last day: I asked my Manager if she would give me access to our tax credit program, she refused. She said she “was too busy” and she didn’t see why I would have access to something so soon when she didn’t.
After this I quit, I was only there for about a week and half. I tried to talk to my area director about but it, but you could tell they just didn’t want to hear it.

I had the misfortune of staying here from April 2021-January 2022. Don't believe the good reviews on here, they are from the parents and donors and not actual clients that lived here. They taught classes on employment that you were forced to go to even if you were sick. I remember having Covid-19 and I was yelled at by a staff member during the class. They also force you to attend alcoholics meetings and other evening classes. There was this one staff member named Mr. Evans who was a real hardass I thank God he doesn't work there anymore. You could be polite as could be and he would never speak to you in a kind tone. They do in fact treat you like children. It is very dehumanizing, emasculating and defeminizing. They think just because you're 18-24 you don't deserve to get treated like an actual adult. They threw away my pepper spray instead of just temporarily confiscating it and letting me take it outside to use for self defense. If you break a rule they will either send you outside and not let you come back until 9pm or they will force you to stay in your room all day and only come out when it's time for food or chores. I remember in the middle of winter they forced all of the residents outside and wouldn't let them return until 5 pm...in the 30 or below snowy weather. There is also a social worker that pries into your sex life and dating life which is none of her business. In the ROP building they say it's so cool because they let you order and receive doordash..But then they started enforcing that it's only between the hours of 3 and 5. I remember having to eat my food outside in the rain since I missed dinner and was hungry and it was after 5 pm. They will not allow you to take any over the counter medicine even if you need it for a cold or aches/pains. It flooded downtown one day to te point of the busses not running. I know this because I was waiting at the bus stop and a man on a bike warned me. I headed back and called off work. I made a call for my own safety as an adult and I got forced to stay in my room all day and had extra chores that night.

Don't waste your time with this pathetic excuse of a "shelter". The staff are unprofessional, childish, rude and volatile. Their screening process is an absolute joke, people are sneaking drugs and other paraphernalia in constantly on top of the fact that they treat violent pasts and "attitude problems" as if they're normal and will refuse to do anything about it. It's more like a daycare for bad kids that messed up their life at every chance and refuse to get out of bed let alone get a job. They also will decide randomly to kick everyone out for a day whenever they feel like just as an excuse to not deal with the residents that they willingly take in. Stealing is also rampant in there, everything from clothes to electronics to soap and toothpaste. Give other shelters a chance before choosing Covenant, if it's a choice at all it should be a last resort.

Was going to volunteer and donate but after reading these reviews...ha. I really hate fake masquerading christians . Either you're for helping people or not, don't pretend. Sounds like y'all a scam to benefit off donations, rather than helping people. That's why y'all don't respond to anyone, LMAO. You have nothing to say about being horrible people, and taking advantage of people, who are down in life. I'll find another place in my community to volunteer. I love Detroit but when I read stories like this, y'all are pathetic as they come.

This place is not a place I would recommend first of all I went here back around 2020 and it started off good but one day after I was there for 2 months a staff member came in and was extremely out of control he verbally assaulted me and threatened my life I was then kicked out the program for stating the I would get family and law enforcement involved for his threats they treated what I said as a threat but never made any consequences for his actions the staff there is unprofessional and they keep their personal life in the way of there jobs I was promised housing help but I watched two people get help while being kicked from the program I have no gotten my housing help and I still haven’t

I love the Covenant House Michigan. My son has been living here for a year. The staff is hard working. They take time out with the young adults at this place. They give them hope. Help them get jobs. Host meetings to keep them on the right path. I love that they help the young people to become responsible young adults. They are understand what it takes to make the youth successful in today's society. Covenant House Michigan is a huge blessing
