This is a very well maintained place. With great people. However all those creatures living up to 70 years and sadly they would never be able to leave out without a cage.
Those creatures in my opinion could be free and better off euthanized than keep in cages for the rest of their life, it is true they might now have a better life than at a circus, but it is still soul crushing to have to be in jail for the rest of their life for no reason.

Went with my Granddaughter and her friend, as a Guest of my granddaughter. Had a wonderful time and did not want to go. If I lived here I would be here as much as I could. Helping these beautiful Apes.

What I love about this Sanctuary is that the caretakers take their jobs very seriously. And even though the facility is open to the public during certain times of the year, above all else, their main priority is the comfort and happiness of these great apes. They have many rescued/retired chimps and orangutans, and each and every one is unique. Unfortunately, I recently learned that the American government does not help facilities like theirs when it comes to rescuing and rehabilitation from illegal pet trade in the US. That's why they heavily rely on donations and volunteers when rescuing new apes and expanding the park. All I can say is... It is worth EVERY PENNY. Any type of support goes a very long way. It is a true haven for these misplaced and misunderstood creatures. ? ♥️

10-star worthy! Plesse adopt an orangutan or chimpanzee - this place does amazing work, and the animals are very well cared for. Patty and her staff/volunteers do an amazing job giving these beautiful animals a second chance.

This is not a zoo. You can't just show up and walk in. This is done to give the orangutans and chimpanzees a comfortable, well-cared for retirement. These are former zoo animals, pets, movie performers and research animals. Many have been abused and don't need to be gawked at. If interested, I encourage you to join and attend the two open houses they hold each year. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED if you do.
