I was looking to adopt a cat or two and did just that! I was welcomed as soon as I walked in and was then led to see the cats they had available for adoption. The staff were very knowledgeable about all the cats and answered any questions I had. I applied that same night and was able to pick up Mr. Purrlock Holmes and Dr. Catson the next day after they made sure Holmes was utd on his vaccines. They're the sweetest, most curious boys. Thank you Animal Haven!

Quality Animal Rescue in NYC. But I don't like adoption process. Animals in this case dogs had to be screened online before you were given a chance to see them (assuming they were in the building and not at a foster home). -1 star. Second was pricing. Their young puppy cost was highest of rescues ( Note cost DOES include fixing and 1st years shots and ID chip. )

Volunteered here today and I have to say it was an amazing experience. These people care about animals and are extremely good at taking care of them. John Stewart got his dog here and if you are looking to adopt, give them a try.

Walked in today to see more information regarding adoption and to see if we could meet the cats up for adoption. We were “greeted” with the rudest, self-important old lady at the front counter — whose only job is probably to intimidate you away from this place. Not only did she talk to us very slow, like we couldn’t speak English, but also questioned why we were even there in the first place — with no intention or interest of sharing any information. She does a very good job in keeping customers away from this place. I’d recommend seeking other adoption /animal service centers if you’re looking to be treated with some human decency & respect.
I’d also recommend looking at recent reviews that share the same sentiment.

Please don’t use this review not to adopt! Just sharing my experience with the PEOPLE not the sweet dogs.

Like many other negative reviews about this place, I immediately experienced negativity from the woman at the front desk. After seeing the shelter was visibly overcrowded, we met the perfect dog for my sister who was looking to adopt, and decided to fill out an application. The application process felt like a job interview, where I had to match her exact definition of what a good pet parent and good training looks like, despite each dog having unique personalities and needs. We shared that I would use a training group, a renowned one at that, which I use for my resident rescue dogs. She basically shat on our trainers approach. This hurt; not only because it felt like our application didn’t stand a chance against her subjective expectations, but also because she undermined the hard work I put into training my reactive pitbull. Not to mention, I’ve fostered 40 dogs of all ages and sizes, supporting each come out of their timid, scared shells. I think I know what I’m doing to some extent.

I’m not telling people not to adopt from here because these dogs have nothing to do with the rude staff members and deserve home, but beware that your opinion of a dedicated pet parent means nothing if it doesn’t match hers. Also, not all staff members are rude! We met the sweetest people downstairs who visibly love and care for these dogs, and want them to find good homes.

Update: She gave the dog to her friend, admitting to reading our email and not responding. My sister travelled an hour and a half to speak with the woman since she hadn’t heard back via email. Then was met with judgement about her personal life, including intrusive questions not related to the application process.

Best animal shelter around for dogs and cats. A no kill shelter that treasures every guest. They are truly a blessing to our furry friends. Very professional and thorough screening for potential adoptions are unparalleled. They really care about every pet and find the right owner to match them. They are angels on earth.
