The needle exchange is absolutely positively impacting our community! I am a user...not proud but open about it with hopes to make people realize how important it is to have clean equipment. It is a safer place because of these people and their sponsors. I'm sure our hospital ER rooms notice a difference as well as neighborhoods whom are definitely cleaner thanks to the needle exchange.

I live next to it and people keep smoking and shooting up in our alleyway. My lady will tell people to leave when she sees it and when they get ugly she has to spray them with a hose to leave. They toss needles over our fence time to time. I filled up a 5 gallon bucket of needles from my back yard when we first moved here. I couldn’t let my kids in the back yard for a month because I was paranoid about them finding one I missed. People also keep leaving feces and fece covered close in the alleyway. My kids see all of this. I wish you could move your needle exchange. My property value has decreased due to the needle exchange. Do to the foot traffic it causes, more people try to steal from me. The only people that should get free needles is diabetics. Towns getting worse and the needle exchanges are not helping anyone. My lady finally had to buy a gun because of it.

Very informative about what I was seeking when it comes to helping others. And how I could help them with resources and in case of running into someone in an overdose situation.
I don't need any backlash just trying to help.

I have a friend who drives from monument to get this service. Some of the staff is not judgmental and there too help. However my friend drove all the way from monument and called to confirm the crossroads. Was literally turning into the exchange at 659 the lady turned my friend down and said they are walking out the door at 7. I just can't wrap my head around this. How rude. I could see if she was 5 or 10 min late or even 3.. it was still within open hours and she turned her down after an hour drive.

Among other services, such as HIV and Hepatitis C testing, Access Point provides a needle exchange program.

They give clients clean needles every Tuesday between 10am and 12pm, and then they reopen at 130pm until 4pm. If the client is not returning any used needles, the client is given 50 clean ones, but if the client returns even a few used syringes, the client is given 70 clean ones. Clients also offered tourniquets, sterile cooking containers, and cotton filters.

Clients are also given a sharps container to carry store and transport used syringes, and each client is given a card from Access Point that can be shown to any Pueblo law enforcement officer if the client is found in possession of syringes, clean or used. Most officers are said to be very supportive of the program, and do not take any legal action as long as the client is not in possession of illegal narcotics.

If a client is in possession of illegal drugs, the card will not help them. The card helps only to show police why you're carrying syringes, dirty or clean, and will save you from arrest for possessing those syringes.

Clients never have to give their full name during intake or when exchanging syringes. Only the initials and a birth year are used for identification. The process is fast, easy, and worth it for those who continue to use IV drugs.

Access Point provides a multitude of counseling and recovery services, and will help clients get in contact with even more recovery resources if desired.

In the interest of anonymity, I'll only say that this organization performs a function that not only allows people easier pathways to healthy living and recovery, but also saves lives by reducing disease transmission and providing resources for recovery to all of their clients.

A shining light in a sea of shame and judgmental darkness.
