I went to drop off some donations like I usually do, rang the doorbell and started to remove items waiting for someone to come. No one came so I rang the doorbell again and waited. Someone finally came to the door and I had one item sitting on the ground because I needed to take it out to get to the other donations and the young kid who came to the door told me, rather aggressively and condescending, that I can’t leave stuff on the ground because they will report me and I will get a citation, you can’t just leave items outside. I was really taken aback to this because I wasn’t leaving the items, I was waiting for someone to come to the door like they always have - I’ve donated items here at least 15 times. I bring all of my donations here instead of goodwill even though it’s very much out of my way because I think they do more for the community but if this is how they treat people who are trying to provide them items to sell - I don’t think it’s worth it.

If you are like me, you like to save money and have nice clothes, well 2nd hand stores can be a great place to help you with that…if you go to the right stores.

While The Giving Store is a 2nd hand shop, they are very particular about what items they hang out for sale. Their clothing is always a notch (or 3) above most other stores. In fact I often find brand new items at a very discounted price.

Last time I was in, I needed some new tops and they needed to be something I could wear to talk with clients. I found 3 blouses that all looked brand new. In fact 1 still had the price tag on it and it was far higher than I would have ever spent.

When I went to checkout, all 3 of the blouses came to just under $13. Yes, 3 for a fraction of what one would have been new.

One of the other things I like is The Giving Store doesn’t seem to use that cheap heavy perfumed stuff on their clothes like many other 2nd hand stores. I can wash the clothes once and they are ready to wear.

To top it off, proceeds from sales benefit S.A.F.E House in Henderson.

So when you are looking for that 2nd hand item, but still want something nice, stop in to The Giving Store!

I don’t want to rate low because it’s a nice store and they support a good cause. But I wanted to leave a suggestion. The prices here are alongside that of Goodwill ($1 for a glass, $7 for a pair of pants etc) but some things are priced way too high. I picked up a gold candlestick holder and it was $25! This is a thrift store and you get your items for free. There was an employee stocking the shelves who was sighing loudly and complaining that there was nowhere to put anything. There is also a huge pile of donations at the back dropoff area. And I mean a ton of stuff just sitting there in the sun! Would you not make more money if you priced things affordably (not based on eBay prices, where sellers often have room to store inventory for months on end until the right buyer comes along)? Even if that candlestick was $10 I would have put it back. Lower prices, move more stock, be able to accept more donations without worrying about people taking things from the back (for free) that were donated to you (for free).
