We hired a place to hang your hat to remodel our newly purchased home. The bid was very precise and these guys did a fantastic job. never cut corners, actually fixed up issues as they popped up. The job was done in time, better than our expectation. In fact Derek was a great help with a lot of the designs, way better than the designer we hired and got rid of..
All in all they healed the bad taste left by every other contractor I hired in the past. They are honest, their work quality is very high and they show up till the end!
I referred them to all my friends and will keep on doing it.

Last year I bought an older house in Nevada City that needed all kinds of small jobs completing, including a completely gutted bathroom that the previous owner had been unable to finish prior to the sale. Being new to the area and only being here part-time made finding a general contractor doubly difficult.
Derek Dykstra and his crew were recommended to me by the electrician whom I had called on for some emergency electrical work in the old 1890's house. I'm so glad I found Derek. He responded to my initial request very promptly and listened carefully to the details of what needed to be done. I felt confident to leave him to do the work in my absence and the end result was superb. Lots of attention to detail and quality workmanship. He communicated with me at every turn and kept me updated with photos. And there were lots of unexpected discoveries along the way as one might expect with an older property. He worked the smaller jobs into his busy schedule and got everything completed in the timeline we had agreed upon.
His billing was detailed and honest. My tenant reported the crew were hardworking, friendly and very thoughtful and communicative.
I am no stranger to hiring contractors and have been involved in some extensive building projects in the past. It's not easy to find someone with great integrity that also produces quality results but Derek and his crew do exactly that.
I have no hesitation in recommending Derek as a first class contractor. If you want it done right, call A Place to Hang Your Hat!

Where to start... First, the name. While it is a mouth full, it really encompasses there values in there work quality and what they want to build for you. They build, not houses, but homes. ( A place to hang your hat). Their quality of work is second to none. They are the top 1% when it comes to craftsmanship. I don't say that lightly. We work for many contractors that do quality work and produce a great product. However, the eye to detail that Derek has is amazing! (At times frustrating from a subcontractors view).They are up to date on current products and methods in the construction field, giving them the ability to produce the best final product. His crew is great to work with and they also hold to the same standard that has been set. From the details that you see to the details you don't see, you will get a quality job that will stand the test of time

Derek is a rare individual—a true craftsman who takes great pride in his work, which clearly shows in the finished product. Everything he does is done with care and to the highest standards. He completed much of the finish work on our recently constructed home, and we could not be happier. I cannot recommend him highly enough.
