I had a terrible experience with this organization. I had just lost my Father and needed support for the grief as well as anger from horrific and complicated events leading to his death. During my initial intake conversation, I was told I was in the right place; that I would be in a safe & comforting environment to tell my story.
This was not the case.
After listening to others who had obviously been a part of the group for some time (their stories were about new jobs, traveling, etc) the moderator responded to each of them with a lengthy conversation. After I opened up about the upsetting events, the moderator simply stated, "oftentimes our stories will change". She then moved on to the next person without allowing me to respond.
I was shocked at her blatant dismissal and denial of my truth - The Truth.
Extremely disappointed and left to grieve alone, this place only caused more pain.

The GeorgetownTx Christi Center. Well it was the most unwelcoming grief group. I’m traumatized from it. Judgy Long time grief group members seem to decide who they want in the group. Parking was an issue so I was I few minutes late… so I was nervous and frazzled and humiliated. I called the main office and was given one other grief group option. I doubt this will even be addressed. Just wanted to share my experience… still in heavy grief and that made it even worse. Because if my nervousness and being a few minutes late I was accused of being intoxicated which I was not. I went back a second time and was dressed down like a kid.. I’m 66 and got the cold shoulder. NOT A WELCOMING GROUP IN GEORGETOWN TEXAS. Very disappointed with the whole experience. Basically Jocelyn the program director just shined me on or off. One lady, Kathy listened and said that’s not how she runs her group in Austin. She was the nicest. I would never recommend the Georgetown group to anyone. I may try Austin group with Kathy if possible. Ok well I have nothing to gain here… just telling the truth.

I have heard so many wonderful things about this recovery center that I have wanted to attend the Tuesday, night group. I showed up at the building but as an young African American, 26 years old I was frightened that some people might feel uncomfortable or scared by my presence and it deeply hurt as my 20 year old brother committed suicide during the holidays struggling with these same issues. I hope that I will get the strength and encouragement needed to get help from this wonderful center.

I have had a wonderful and comforting time every time I go. It’s a place to let it all out about however you in your grief. It’s a safe environment to be who you are now after everything has happened. The leader is kind and giving and helps with information about grieving. It’s interesting to learn about why so much has changed in your life. Really helpful place! They have parking for the handicap.

It took me a year to try processing my grief in a group setting. I wish I hadn't waited so long and gotten frustrated with loved ones who had no way to understand what I was going through. Find the people who do - they're here. You may have only one thing in common but I find myself looking forward to the group meeting every week. This is a truly great community service.

A safe, supportive place to heal. No judgements, no platitudes, just people who get it, because they lived it. Easy to park, show up any Monday night for all types of grief groups. They welcome you with a tour and get you situated, plus everything is totally FREE to you! I couldn't have asked for a better place to grieve. The Christi Center has everything I didn't know I needed.

My friend was mistreated with her first (and only) group meeting. No one reached out, no one apologized. Grief is a highly sensitive matter and everyone should be treated with respect and validation.

I took my kids as well when I went to group. I met such great people here. I highly recommend people visit Christi Center for help. Thank you everyone on the staff for caring for me and my children. 🙏❤️
